Store Bay Beach
Store Bay is one of Tobago’s most popular, lively beaches, known for its clear turquoise waters, soft sand, and close proximity to the airport. Located on the southwest coast, it features numerous local food stalls serving authentic curried crab and dumplings, alongside cafes, shops, and snorkeling access to Buccoo Reef.
Pigeon Point Beach
Pigeon Point Beach in Tobago is a premier, 125-acre coastal nature reserve known for its iconic postcard scenery: white powdery sand, leaning palm trees, and calm, turquoise waters. Often considered Tobago’s finest beach, it is famous for its picturesque thatched-roof jetty, offering excellent swimming, snorkeling, and water sports with on-site
amenities.
Buccoo Bay
Buccoo Bay is a scenic, long, white-sand beach in a traditional Tobagonian fishing village, renowned for its calm, turquoise waters and bordering mangrove foliage.
Located in southwestern Tobago, it is famous as the gateway to Buccoo Reef and the Nylon Pool, popular for swimming, snorkeling, and glass-bottom boat tours.
Mount Irvine Bay
Mount Irvine Bay is a picturesque 800-meter destination known for its stunning, calm turquoise waters, popular for snorkeling, and its, often, high-wave surf side from November to April. The
beach features golden sand, shaded by almond trees, and is divided into public and hotel areas, offering amenities like restaurants, bars, and a nearby championship golf course.
Buccoo Reef & Nylon Pool
Buccoo Reef and the Nylon Pool are the most famous marine attractions in Tobago, offering a unique “middle of the
ocean” experience. Located off the southwest coast near Pigeon Point, these protected areas are typically visited together
via glass-bottom boat tours. Buccoo Reef: A vast coral reef system home to over 40 species of coral and a vibrant array of tropical fish like parrotfish and triggerfish. It acts as a natural barrier, keeping the inner waters calm. Nylon Pool: A natural, waist-deep sandbar in the middle of the ocean. It was named by Princess Margaret in 1962, who compared its crystal-clear transparency to her nylon stockings.
No Man’s Land
No Man’s Land is a secluded, picturesque white-sand peninsula in Tobago, located near the Bon Accord Lagoon and Buccoo Reef. Primarily accessible by boat, it is a popular spot for picnics, BBQ lunches, snorkeling, and relaxing in calm, turquoise waters. The area is largely undeveloped, featuring mangrove forests and vibrant, shallow waters.
Accessibility: Most visitors arrive via glass-bottom boat tours from Buccoo or Store Bay, often combined with a visit to the nearby Nylon Pool.
Buccoo Goat Race Festival
The Buccoo Goat Race Festival is an iconic, century-old Tobago tradition held annually on Easter Tuesday at the Buccoo Integrated Facility. Started in 1925 as a “poor man’s” alternative to horse racing, it features trained goats sprinting 100 yards while barefoot jockeys run behind them.
The Race: Goats are trained for months, often including swimming to build muscle, and
are categorized by experience (C2 for rookies to A for veterans).
Jockeys: They run directly behind the goats, guiding them with a rope.
Tobago Carnival
The October festival is centered around the theme “Mud, Mas, and Music” and features high-energy street parades and cultural competitions. The core weekend typically follows this structure:
J’Ouvert: A pre-dawn street party on the penultimate day (Saturday) involving mud, oil, and paint.
Night Mas: An evening parade featuring glowing costumes and illuminated sections through the streets of Scarborough.
Tobago Heritage Festival
The Tobago Heritage Festival is a two-week cultural celebration (mid-July to August 1) that highlights the island’s African and European roots through daily community-led village performances, music, dance, and cuisine, culminating on Emancipation Day. It is the cornerstone of Tobago’s cultural calendar, featuring iconic events like the Moriah Old Time Wedding and Natural Treasures Day in Charlotteville.
